Dow Chemical needed to purchase a batch of seamless stainless-steel and nickel-based alloy pipes and is looking for qualified suppliers. After contacting steel companies in the United States, Germany, Japan and other countries, their products all failed to pass its acceptance test. After twists and turns, it found Zhongxing Equipment products.
The technical difficulties of this batch of seamless pipes are as follows:
● Purity index of the material: The length of a single non-metallic inclusion shall not exceed 0.1016mm; When the distance between two nonmetallic inclusions is less than 0.0762mm, they are regarded as a nonmetallic inclusion.
● By means of ultrasonic detection, it is detected that the non-metallic inclusion in the whole seamless alloy pipe meets the aforesaid requirement.
● When the surface of the finished pipe is subjected to the liquid penetrant test, there shall be no display of defection (any standard will allow the product or material to show any defects after the liquid penetrant test), that is “zero defect”.

Aiming at the requirements of non-metallic inclusions, we established a new mathematical model of gas control and analysis in smelting process and collected a large number of actual control and output data to make the model closer to the actual production, with satisfactory results achieved. The results were not only applied to this Dow Chemical order, but also allowed us to make a great leap forward in the control of non-metallic inclusions in special materials.
To meet these requirements of Dow Chemical, we did the following:
Previously, ultrasonic flaw detection of nonmetallic inclusions was only used for the positioning and qualify of defects, but now it is required to quantify them correctly. Through our efforts, we overcame many technical difficulties, such as the manufacture of sample pipe (the processing of precise micro-blind hole), the development of special ultrasonic flaw detection probe, and the correct qualitative and quantitative evaluation.
The fundamental solution of "zero defect" in pipes’ surface lies in the high purity of the material itself. We put great effort into the purity of the material itself, which, together with the proper manufacturing process, facilitated the realization of “zero defect” in the end.
After we provided our own solutions, the customer went to the factory to inspect the company's scientific and technological research and development strength, the quality level of similar products and team management ability, and then they gave all orders to us without any hesitation. As a result, Zhongxing Equipment became one of the few qualified suppliers of cold-drawing seamless stainless-steel pipes of Dow Chemical in China.
